FAQs

Do I have to pay for plugins?

No, all plugins are free and you can install as many as you wish - up to the limit for your plan/subscription (e.g. the Free plan is limited to 3 active plugins).

Note that new plugins in the future may require additional fees - e.g. if they depend on 3rd party services which incur a usage cost.

Who owns the notes/content I post?

You do. We make no claim on your content and will not use it for anything other than servicing your needs. We do not sell your data, nor use it for marketing nor for training AI models. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

Is it secure?

Yes. We operate in accordance with security and compliance best practises, including strong encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems - as well as secure software development practises including static code analysis and vulnerability scanning.

Do you pass my data on to anybody else?

No, your data is held in Notomaton's systems only, hosted by our hosting service provider (Vultr.

The only exception to this is where you choose to install a plugin that depends on 3rd party services (e.g. the AI plugin). If you choose to do this, any data sharing required for the plugin to operate will be explained to you for confirmation/approval before the plugin is activated.

Where is my data hosted?

The default/primary hosting environment is East-coast US. Multi-region hosting is a planned feature on our roadmap, and can be manually set if you require; e.g. to host your data in the EU or your local region. If local data hosting is important to you prior to general availability of this feature, please contact us for setup.

Can you access my password or Google/Microsoft account?

No. We (deliberately) only support social signin via Google/Microsoft/etc, so we do not collect nor store any passwords.

When you sign in with your chosen identity provider (i.e. Google or Microsoft or whoever) we only receive a user ID, your name, your email address, and a link to your profile picture. This access is outlined to you on the consent screen as you sign in.

How do I delete my account?

Sign in and visit your Profile/Settings area and follow the steps there. After a cool-off period your account and data will be deleted. If you have questions, or any trouble accessing this, please contact us.

Whats tech does Notomaton use?

Notomaton is written in Go, using the PostgreSQL database. The UI is powered by HTMX and styled with TailwindCSS and DaisyUI. It is hosted in Docker containers in secure cloud environments provided by Vultr.

Whilst we make use of some excellent open source components (such as the Chi router), the app platform, authentication and internal services are proprietary and largely build on Go's excellent standard library. We are engineers and builders at heart, so if you want to know more feel free to contact us.
